Description

The dovecote, located approximately 75 metres to the south-west of the Church Rooms in Letwell, is likely from the late 18th century and was renovated around 1982. It features a stone plinth and red brick in Flemish bond, with a stone slate eaves course leading to a tiled roof. The structure is octagonal with two storeys.

On the south-east side, there is a doorway with a boarded door set in a rock-faced surround, complete with a keystone above the lintel. The lower storey has no other openings. A string course runs along the first floor beneath round-arched recesses on each face, with pigeon holes located above the door and to the right. The eaves have a dentil course, and the hipped roof is topped with lead ridges and a louvred glover featuring a weathervane.

Inside, there is a central post with a revolving ladder and tiers of nesting holes beneath segmental arches. The dovecote was originally associated with South Farm and was renovated by the Council for Preservation of Rural England.
