Description
The dovecote, located approximately 40 meters southwest of Rectory Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century and is currently used for storage. It is constructed from rendered uncoursed limestone rubble with alternating angle quoins and has an asbestos sheet roof. The building has a square plan and is two storeys high. A continuous string course runs around the structure, which is interrupted by a square-headed doorway on the first floor of the east side and a window on the north gable end. There is also a square-headed doorway on the ground floor of the east side, which is partly blocked by 20th-century external lateral steps leading to a boarded door on the first floor. This door has been infilled, and a 20th-century centre-hung casement has been inserted. Inside, the first floor features a wide boarded floor and two deep-chamfered cross beams with chamfer stops. Pigeon nesting holes are visible, although some are blocked. The roof is a double-purlin design with three bays supported by two collar and tie beam trusses.
