Description
Stonecroft is a house dating from the late 18th century, with a mid-20th century extension. The original part is built from uncoursed limestone rubble, while the addition is made from roughly coursed limestone rubble, both topped with stone slate roofs. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-window front with three-light 19th century casements that have wooden lintels; the central window on the first floor is blind. There is a gabled dormer in the middle of the roof slope. The central entrance has a plank door with two glazed square panels at the top, sheltered by a mid-20th century gabled trellised porch. The house has integral end stacks with dripstones, although the tops have been rebuilt in brick. To the right, there is a low gabled range with an infilled doorway to the left and a boarded door to the right. An Automobile Association sign on the gable end indicates distances to various locations: "FARINGDON 6 1/4/LANGFORD/BURFORD 6/LONDON 74 1/4/SAFETY FIRST". The two-storey mid-20th century addition on the left side of the main range is not of special architectural interest. The building is included for its group value.
