Description

SE20SW LANGSETT MANCHESTER ROAD (north side, off), Langsett 6/73 Barn, adjoining and to south of Alderman's Head cote Farmhouse II Barn. C16 and C17. Cruck frame clad in coursed, squared stone, stone slate roof. 3½ internal bays, outshut to front left and to rear left. Central square-headed cart-entry. Altered and blocked openings to right, outshut to left with small ventilation holes. Rear: opposed cart-entry in later outshut, ventilation slits to original outshut to right. Left return: two doorways with quoined surrounds, that to left having early door with pegged oak surround. Later house (not included in listing) adjoining to right. Interior: 3 cruck trusses with collars and extended tie-beams. Between crucks 1 and 2 re-used cruck blades have been added to support purlins. Cruck 3 is missing and has been replaced by a C19 queen-post truss. Cruck 4 is built into the gable wall of the later house. Wall plate intact, diagonally-set ridge-piece survives in 2 bays.
