Description

A cruck barn dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, situated at the east side of the entrance to Swaithe Hall Farm. The barn is constructed of rubble sandstone with internal timber framing, and has modern tile and felt roofing. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure. The side facing the farmhouse features large quoins. A central door is set in a wooden frame, and there is a wood-linteled opening to the left. The barn has a steeply-pitched roof. The rear elevation shows rebuilt stonework with two large openings on the right, divided by a pier. The left return is partially obscured by an adjoining farm building (which is not listed). Upper wall areas are weatherboarded, revealing some of the cruck framework. Inside, the barn features four pairs of cruck blades, some with two tie beams and a collar at the apex, supported by wind-braced purlins.
