Description
The stable block at the west side of the entrance to Swaithe Hall Farm, dated 1671, is constructed from rubble sandstone and features a sheet asbestos roof. It is two storeys high and has three external bays. The building is characterized by large quoins and a central doorway, which has been converted into a window. This doorway features quoins, a deep lintel with a keystone, and is flanked by the numerals of the date, along with a dripstone above. Each of the outer bays contains a later casement window set within a 17th-century double-chamfered window surround, which now lacks a mullion but retains a dripstone.
On the first floor, the outer windows have part-slatted casements in altered surrounds similar to those below, while a central slatted casement has been inserted. The left side of the building has shaped kneelers and ashlar gable copings. A large 20th-century sliding door has been added to the ground floor on the right side. Above this door, on the left, there is an original quoined doorway that has been blocked; it features a deep lintel with a keystone and a dripstone. Inside, the original roof structure remains intact, supported by three principal-rafter trusses. This stable block is included for its group value, while the lower farm buildings attached to the right return are not of special interest.
