Description
The building is a barn located to the southeast of Lower Lewden Farmhouse, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with later additions. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof with two ventilator hoods. The barn has an L-plan layout and includes quoins. It is two storeys tall.
On the east front, the ground floor is obscured by sleepers, while the upper floor has three former window openings that are now boarded and have flush ashlar surrounds. The north gable front features a single boarded window, and above it, a former window has been extended downwards to create a loft doorway. The east front has a doorway to the left, followed by two boarded windows to the right, and in the angle, there is a low blocked doorway with an ashlar lintel and voussoir blocks. The return north front has a low blocked doorway, and above it, a former window has also been extended downwards to form a loft doorway. The east gable wall contains two rows of breathers, while the south front has a single doorway with a sliding door and a loft opening above.
Inside, the barn retains a partial timber frame with braces and a Queen post truss roof with overlapping purlins.
