Description
The lych gate to the Church of Our Lady and St James is likely from 1902 and was designed by T. H. and F. Healey of Bradford. It is constructed from ashlar sandstone and features a free-standing archway with double iron gates in the Gothic Revival style. The arch is double-chamfered and has a hoodmould, with a panel inscribed with the phrase: "Believers in the word and not hearers only." Above the arch is a shield displaying the insignia of St. James. The gate is flanked by buttresses that have roll-moulded copings, and the gable copings are made from ashlar slabs topped with an apex cross. The iron gates are contemporary to the structure. This lych gate is included for its group value with the church.
