Description

Worsbrough Hall Flats represent a service wing originally part of Worsbrough Hall, dating mostly from the early 19th century. The complex comprises four flats within one end range, with the rest of the range previously unoccupied. Constructed of deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone with a stone slate roof, it forms an irregular U-shaped three-story range enclosing a garden to the west, alongside a freestanding southern wing and a double wing to the north. The design incorporates elements of 17th-century vernacular revival style, featuring chamfered mullioned windows, shaped kneelers, and gable copings.

The east front has a central range of three bays, one bay being gabled and projecting forward, with outer recessed bays behind a flat-roofed infill that incorporates basement entrances and windows of one and three lights, all finished with a parapet. A main range is set back, also featuring similar windows across two floors. A reconstructed single-story porch sits on the left of the central bay, alongside a transomed three-light window above, flanked by single lights, and a two-light window above. A gable bellcote is also present. The end gable on the right features a quoined basket arch beneath a four-light window, with four slit windows above, a string course, and a stepped four-light window beneath a gable finial. A plain gable wall exists on the right, marking the site of a demolished adjoining building. The south wing, set back, has sash windows on three floors, the left return of which is now separated from Worsbrough Hall. The building is included on the list for its group value.
