Description

The former mill building at Aldham Farm is a water mill that has been converted into an outbuilding. It dates from the 18th century, with various builds and some 19th-century alterations. The structure is made of coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high with a basement and has three bays. The lower part of the building has quoins and a plinth with offsets on the right side.

On the right, there is a boarded basement door with a small-pane window to its left, both under monolithic lintels. In the center, there are two window openings with similar lintels, and above these is a central doorway also under a similar lintel, which has a small square opening to the left and a single-light window with a plain stone surround to the right. The upper floor has three windows with stone lintels and projecting sills, one of which retains a small-pane window with broken glass. There is a brick end stack on the right side.

At the rear, the building features quoins and on the right, there is an entrance to the wheel chamber with a wooden hatch and remains of iron winding gear. To the left of this entrance are two small-pane windows, with the right one supported by iron stanchions. The first floor has three windows similar to those at the front, and there are gutter brackets present.

The left return has a 19th-century addition that is not of special interest, featuring a central two-light recessed chamfered mullion window with iron stanchions and two other windows at a lower level to the right, although the rest of this side was not visible during the inspection. Inside, there are broad beams and floorboards, along with a reset stone lintel dated 1598. The building was noted to be in a state of disrepair at the time of inspection.
