Description

SE30NE BARNSLEY DONCASTER ROAD (north side), 4/28 Ardsley Ardsley Manor House and 6.2.52 Ardsley Manor Cottage (formerly listed as Manor House and out-building to the North) GV II Former manor house, now 2 residences. Probably Cl7, much altered, mainly in the C19. Squared, coursed rubble, deeply-coursed to right return (east). Stone slate roof. Two storeys. C19 windows to road front (south). At the rear (east)end is a 3-light double-chamfered window to ground floor and a small fire window to 1st floor. At the eaves is an ashlar stack. The right return has a near-central doorway with chamfered, quoined surround. To its right is a 5-light double-chamfered window. Both are under a common dripmould. To the left is an added stone garage. Two C19 single-light unequal sash windows with glazing bars, to 1st floor. Other windows are C19 or C20. Interior not inspected at time of resurvey, but east end is said to have a panelled room with carved overmantel.
