Description

Tyers Hill is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of deeply-coursed, squared sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with prominent twin-gabled elevations facing the garden and farmyard, which are accessed from the side walls.

The garden front has two storeys, previously with an attic, and consists of two bays. It features double-chamfered mullioned windows with dripstones, and 20th-century wooden casements. On the left, there is a two-light window and a three-light window under a shared dripstone, while a three-light window is located to the right, as well as in both first-floor bays. The attic windows are blind and consist of two lights. The gables have moulded kneelers and chamfered copings, with a finial at the apex of the right gable.

At the rear, the design is similar, although two of the mullioned windows have had their stonework renewed. The left return features a projecting stack on the left with offsets, while the upper part has been replaced with brickwork. To the right, there is a 17th-century doorway that has been converted into a window, featuring a chamfered, quoined surround with a deep lintel and dripstone; an inserted doorway is located to its right. Another external stack is corbelled from the first-floor level to the right of the door.

The right return has been extensively altered in the 19th century, with a central doorway in a chamfered stone surround and dripstone. Large flanking three-light double-chamfered mullioned windows with dripstones and relieving arches above are present, along with similar three-light windows set within gabled dormers that have kneelers and copings. Between the dormers, there is a single double-chamfered window. The roof features two shouldered and corniced ridge stacks.
