Description

The Grove is a large house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The rear section may be entirely from the 19th century. It is constructed of thinly coursed rubble with quoins, and features deeper, squared courses at the rear, with some parts rendered. The roof is made of stone slate, and the building has a double-depth plan over two storeys.

The front has three bays. The central bay, which was originally gabled, has had the left part of the gable raised to form a parapet that connects to the taller left bay. The left bay features 5-light double-chamfered windows with hoodmoulds. The central bay has an entrance on the right and a 3-light front-faced mullion window with early glazing. The first floor has a large 19th-century double-chamfered window. The right bay is rendered at ground floor level and includes a doorway, along with a 5-light double-chamfered window with hoodmould on the first floor. The gable copings are hollow-chamfered, resting on moulded kneelers with finials. An ashlar ridge stack is situated between the first and second bays.

The left return of the building is rendered and features a 5 over 5-light double-chamfered window at ground floor level, with the inner frame, mullions, and transom made of wood. There is also a 4 over 4-light transomed, double-chamfered window on the first floor, and a foiled vent in the apex. The rear part of the building may be a separate construction.

The symmetrical three-bay facade includes a central portico with tapering octagonal piers and backing pilasters, and a round-arched window above. The facade also features wide tripartite windows with grooved lintels and paired stone brackets supporting the gutter. Gable stacks are present as well. The interior has not been inspected.
