Description
Saville Hall is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble with quoins and features an ashlar left gable return. The stone slate roof covers two storeys and an attic, with three bays and a small lower rear wing. The front of the building has a chamfered plinth and a blocked near-central doorway. It has 20th-century casements set in raised, plain 19th-century surrounds, along with traces of original 17th-century window openings. There is a doorway in the second bay, and paired stone brackets support the gutter. The gable copings are hollow-chamfered and rest on built-up square kneelers, with ball finials remaining on the left. A rendered brick stack is located on the right side.
At the rear, the central wing has been altered, and to its right is a projecting stack that was originally internal, with visible remains of fireplace openings. The top of the stack is made of ashlar. A 20th-century porch to the left of the wing is not of special interest. The left gable features a continuous dripmould between the floors, single-light windows on both the ground and first floors, and a large two-light double-chamfered window in the gable, where the mullion has been removed, complete with a hoodmould. There is a foiled opening in the gable apex with baluster-like sides, and two small double-chamfered windows in the attic of the right gable. The interior has not been inspected. It is presumed that this building is the eastern part of a larger structure that has since been demolished.
