Description

The former orangery, located on the north-east side of the walled garden to the north of Home Farm, is a Grade II listed building, likely dating from the early 19th century and built for the Wentworth Castle estate. Constructed from red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone walling at the rear and ashlar dressings, it features a Welsh slate roof. The structure is a single storey with five bays, an ashlar plinth, and full-height openings. The central doorway has an overlight with glazing bars, while the other bays have later casements. An ashlar entablature is present, although the blocking course has been removed. The hipped roof includes moulded plinths at the corniced end stacks. At the rear, there are three tall openings with lintels that are tooled as voussoirs, and a lighter cornice with remnants of a blocking course.

Inside, the orangery has stone paving and a light roof construction, which was originally glazed, featuring iron webs that reinforce the apex beneath the ridge.
