Description

STAINBOROUGH WENTWORTH CASTLE SE30SW 1/146 Former orangery on north-east side of walled garden to north of Home Farm II Orangery now nurserymens' store. Probably early C19, for the Wentworth Castle estate. Red brick in Flemish bond, sandstone walling to rear, ashlar dressings, Welsh slate roof. Single storey, 5 bays. Ashlar plinth. Full-height openings: central doorway having overlight with glazing bars, later casements to other bays. Ashlar entablature, blocking course removed. Hipped roof with moulded plinths to corniced end stacks. Rear: 3 tall openings with lintels tooled as voussoirs, lighter cornice with remains of blocking course.

Interior: stone paving; light roof construction (originally glazed) with iron webs reinforcing apex beneath the ridge.
