Description
The Manor House is a building that has transitioned from a religious structure to a manor house and is now a private residence. It dates from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. The exterior features random rubble and some squared rubble, topped with a slate roof and coped verges. There are four brick stacks, one of which is located on the right return, resting on an external rubble base. The building has a cross passage plan and stands two storeys high with attics, comprising four bays with very irregular window arrangements.
The first floor includes two and three-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows, two of which have dripmoulds, and the second from the left has a transom. There are also two small two-light wooden-mullioned windows under the eaves of the attic storey, with the left one featuring glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a two-light casement in a dressed stone surround, a fixed six-light casement in a moulded stone surround with a stopped label, and a small two-light casement with glazing bars set in a reveal. To the left, there is a door opening in a four-centred moulded and stopped dressed stone surround, featuring carved spandrels and a label with carved heads as stops; this is fitted with a 19th-century four-panel door in a Gothic style. The left half of the frontage is obscured by a single-storey 20th-century lean-to, which is not included in the listing.
Inside, the Manor House has a particularly rich interior. The ground floor features cross-beam ceilings, a moulded four-centred arch door opening, and two additional door openings—one with a pointed-arch head and the other with a cambered head. There are two winder staircases and a piscina set in a moulded four-centred head stone surround. The first floor includes a plaster cartouche in the right room, a blocked fireplace with a moulded cornice shelf, and other lesser interior features. To the right of the entrance, there appears to be the remains of a decayed statuette in an oblong niche.
