Description

Saddlers and the attached cottage to the west are two cottages that were originally three, along with an attached mill. The buildings date from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and feature random rubble construction with triple Roman and pantile roofs. The roof on the right side is hipped with coped verges, and there are two brick stacks and one rubble stack.

The Saddlers section has two storeys and is composed of one bay on the left that is set back slightly and two bays on the right. It includes 2-light casements and a flush counted 16-pane sash window on the first floor, while the ground floor has 2 and 3-light casements and a 2-light moulded stone-mullioned window, all beneath a stopped label. There is a door opening to the right with a 20th-century ribbed door.

The attached cottage has two bays with 2 and 3-light casements on the ground floor, which feature glazing bars. The door is nearly central and set in an edge moulded stone architrave, with a 6-panelled door where the top panel has been cut away and glazed. To the left is a former mill that has a cambered return to Old Street and is now part of the dwelling. It features a 3-light casement and an adjacent divided plank door on the ground floor. The rear elevation is supported on piles that span the River Sheppey.
