Description
The Wagon and Horses Public House is a building dating from 1828, constructed for William Payne, Lord of the Manor of Langsett. It is made of coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof and features two storeys and an attic. The front has a symmetrical three-bay gable design with a central doorway that includes an overlight and a moulded cornice. The windows are 4-pane sashes, and there is a Venetian window in the attic with blind side lights. The surrounds of the windows and door have chevron-pattern tooling. The gable has copings on cut kneelers, with the left kneeler built into adjoining houses and dated. There are two lateral stacks on the right, one made of ashlar and the other of brick. The rear of the building is also symmetrical, featuring two bays of 4-pane sashes, with a former central door now replaced by a sash window like the others.
