Description
The building is a barn, likely from the 17th century, located at Well Bank Farm. It features a cruck frame and is constructed of coursed gritstone rubble with a stone slate roof. The barn is single storey with a partial loft above the cowhouse and consists of five bays, with an outshut at the rear that extends beyond the right gable.
The central entrance has a boarded cart door set in quoined reveals. To the left, there is a blocked doorway beneath a large gritstone lintel, accompanied by slit vents. To the right, the cowhouse has a door in a square-faced stone surround, with a casement window to its left and blocked slit vents in rough stone surrounds. The right return features a doorway with a gritstone surround to the left, another door leading into the outshut, and a square opening to the loft.
Inside, there is a stone-paved threshing floor. The cruck framework is well preserved, with four cruck pairs visible, and two additional cruck frames may be incorporated into the end walls. Wall posts are set on ruck blades next to the central bay, with wall ties, purlin ties, curved wind braces to single purlins, and a diagonal-set ridge.
