Description
This is a mid-19th century group of houses and shop premises, situated on Manchester Road and incorporating number 2 Watering Place Road. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone, with an ashlar front, and has a Welsh slate roof. It consists of five bays, with four bays at the rear due to the sloping ground. The central three bays are symmetrical. The central bay features a door with pilaster jambs and an ornamental lintel, leading to a panelled double door. Shop windows flank the door, each with a cornice. To the right, a similar doorway is accompanied by flanking windows. To the left, the arrangement has been altered; the original doorway is now partly blocked and a window has been converted into a door. The first floor has sash windows, with the central window originally round-arched, but now a casement. The window to the left has been altered into a doorway. A first-floor sill band runs along the building, and a moulded eaves cornice sits above. Gable copings are present, and there are four broad ashlar stacks with cornices. A single-storey addition, matching the style, extends from the left.
At the rear, there are four bays, with four-pane sash windows, some of which have been altered or have ground-floor openings blocked. Round-arched windows are featured in each gable.
