Pair of houses in row, with shops. Mid C19, possibly incorporating some earlier fabric to the rear. Rendered and colourwashed, Welsh slate roof, brick stacks. The property is set wedge-shaped on plan, with party walls converging towards the rear; at the left-hand end a throughway is shared with No.8 (qv). EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 2+2 bays. Late C19 shop fronts with 3 wide panelled pilasters, deep moulded cornice over fascia, recessed central doorway to No.6, door to upper floors at centre, and blocked former door to shop front of No.4, and large vertical panes with slender moulded mullions. At the far left is a door to a stone-paved throughway, set across the party-wall boundary. All windows are sashes in plain reveals; at second floor are 2 plain and two 12-pane, and first floor has 4 plain. There are plain pilasters between the two halves, and above the throughway, and a deep brick stack to the right. The parallel range to the rear includes a 16-pane sash, and a large external stack cut back at ground floor, and cropped at the ridge. INTERIOR: not inspected. Part of the development which took place after Broad Street (formerly Wette or Water lane) was widened between 1835-1849.
