Description
4 and 6 High Street is a pair of houses that have been converted into shops with accommodation above. They were built in the early to mid-19th century and are constructed of rendered brick with a Welsh slate roof. The buildings are two-and-a-half storeys tall and feature a central ridge stack that is also rendered.
The front has a regular six-window arrangement, with three panelled giant pilasters that have anthemion capitals and incised Greek-key motifs, dividing the facade into two equal sections. The eaves are deeply overhanging and supported by shaped paired brackets. The first and upper half storeys have two-pane horned and hornless sash windows set in reveals, with moulded eared architraves and plain sills. A moulded band runs between the storeys.
The shop front of No. 6 has a late-19th century frame, complete with consoles, pilasters, and a moulded cornice, while No. 4 features a late-20th century shop front.
