Description
The Greyhound Coaching Inn is a former house with a shop, now part of the inn, dating from the late 17th century. It has been altered in the 19th century and modernised in 1989-90, yet it retains much of its historic fabric. The building is timber-framed with brick cladding and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a two-unit plan with a rear service wing that forms an L-shape. The structure is two storeys high with red brick end stacks. The front has been refaced in the 19th century and features a two-window range. The first floor has three-light casements beneath gable dormers and brick cogged eaves. A hipped pentice slate roof connects two unequal window bays that flank an off-centre half-glazed door. Inside, the timber framing is largely intact, with a principal internal partition that has been partly removed, featuring wattle and daub infilling. The main truss includes a tie, principals set well in from the wall, and a collar, with trenched side purlins. This building significantly contributes to the character of this part of the townscape.
