Description
23 and 25 Market Street is a house that is now used for commercial purposes. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. The building is possibly timber-framed and features red brick cladding, a cogged brick eaves cornice, and a plain tiled roof that is half-hipped to the right (north). There is a large brick chimney stack on the ridge to the left. The building has two storeys and an irregular three-window front, with 20th-century casements on the first floor and 19th-century canted bays with hipped roofs on the ground floor. A half-glazed door is located between the first and second bays from the right. Inside, the ground-floor spine beams are visible, along with a large inglenook fireplace that has panelled supports added in the mid-19th century. The original roof includes integral rear wing roofs.
