Description

Candlemas Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with 19th-century cladding. It has a timber frame covered in red brick, with the box frame exposed and plaster infill at the west end. The building features straight wind-braces and a queen-post roof truss. The roof is made of Swithland slate at the rear and tiles at the front. The cottage is two storeys high, with a stack positioned in front of the ridge at the centre and another on the front slope to the right. There is a brick eaves cornice. The windows are arranged irregularly, with two on the first floor and two below them on the ground floor, all of which are sliding sashes set in segment-headed openings. To the right, there is a boarded door in a segment-headed doorway. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
