Description

Melton Grange is a house dating from the mid-18th century, possibly with earlier origins, located in Welton. The rear wing was remodeled in the Gothick style in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, which is colour-washed, and features stone dressings and pantiled roofs.

The main range is two storeys high with three bays, and the centre bay projects slightly forward. It has a glazed and panelled door beneath a fanlight with radial glazing, set within a pilastered doorcase. This doorcase is flanked on either side by small canted bay windows with sash windows that have glazing bars. A first-floor band runs along the building, and the first floor features three sash windows with sills and glazing bars, all set under flat gauged brick arches. The eaves cornice is dentilled brick, and the building has coped gables on shaped kneelers, with end stacks.

The rear range is also two storeys tall and has four windows. On the left side, there is a projecting gabled porch with a boarded door in a round-headed opening, which is topped with a dripmould. The gable is raised and coped. To the right, there are two three-light casements with sills, each under hoodmoulds. The first floor has alternating two- and three-light casements with sills, also under hoodmoulds. The rear range features end and axial stacks, along with raised coped gables.
