Description

A pair of cottages dating to 1787, built for Sir Henry Etherington. They are constructed of brick, with a colour-washed exterior, and have pantiled and slate roofs. The cottages are single-storey with attics and have a four-window front. The design incorporates a central lobby-entry plan. A Gothick panelled door is set within a projecting gabled porch, flanked to the left by a nine-pane unequal sash window with blank Gothick tracery above, contained within a pointed brick arch. To the right are three similar windows, two with sashes, and a 20th-century window to the right. A datestone reading “Sir H E 1787” is located to the right of the door. The cottages feature oversailing eaves, end stacks, and an axial stack.
