Description

Welton Lodge is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, although it likely incorporates elements of an earlier building. The house is constructed of brick, which has been rendered, lined, and colour-washed, and has a pantiled roof. The main part of the house is a two-storey, five-bay range, with a rear range and later additions to the right and at the rear. A ramped plinth runs around the base. The centre bay projects slightly and contains a 20th-century two-leaf panel door with an overlight featuring vertical glazing, set within a projecting 20th-century porch. Flanking this are two 2-pane sashes. The first floor has a moulded band and a sill band. The central bay has paired 2-pane sashes within an eared and shouldered architrave with keyblocks. There are two 20th-century two-light roof dormers. A rear wall stack is present. A later extension to the right has similar, scattered window openings and a single-storey gabled projection with an external front wall stack.

The rear range has irregular window placement. To the left of the rear elevation is a four-panel door beneath an elliptical fanlight with radial glazing within a moulded architrave and projecting canopy. To the extreme left is an oval window with radial glazing. To the right is a shallow segmental bow window with sashes containing glazing bars extending the full height of the house, flanked to the right and left by narrow 8-pane sashes. A sash with a sill and glazing bars is located to the extreme right. The first floor also has a moulded band and a sill band. The first floor features a 12-pane sash to the left, a similar sash relating to the bow window in the centre, flanked by 8-pane sashes. There are two roof dormers, axial stacks, and a hipped roof. The proportions and stack arrangements suggest that the house is a remodelling of an older structure.
