Description
South View is a house with an attached garden wall located on the north side of High Street in Barmby-on-the-Marsh. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed of brick in English garden wall bond, topped with a pantile roof. The house features a central hallway entry and a cross wing at the rear, standing two storeys tall with three bays. The entrance includes a six-fielded-panel door with an overlight, set within a pilastered doorcase that has a frieze adorned with urns and paterae, topped by a dentilled pediment. The windows are sashes with glazing bars throughout. A three-course band runs along the first floor, interrupted by the doorcase, and there is a stepped eaves course. The gable has coping and shaped kneelers, and the end stacks have been rebuilt. Inside, there is an open-string staircase featuring two column-on-vase balusters per tread, with simple carved tread ends and a ramped handrail. The interior also includes six-fielded-panel doors. The low coped garden wall, which is ramped at either end, is located at the front of the property.
