Description

Hawthorne House is an early 19th-century house located on the south side of High Street, Barby-on-the-Marsh. The building consists of two parallel ranges, arranged around a central hallway entry. The house is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with a pantile roof. It is two storeys high and has three bays at the front. The entrance features a six-panel door set beneath a radial fanlight, all within a keyed pilastered doorcase decorated with swags and urns, and topped with a dentilled pediment. Flanking the door are canted bay windows with plate-glass sashes, while the first floor has a sash window with glazing bars between two tripartite sashes with glazing bars, all set beneath wedge lintels. The roof has a gable coping, and there are end stacks. Inside, a staircase features an open string with slender turned balusters.
