Description

A pair of houses dating from approximately 1850 to 1858, possibly designed by Charles Reed. The houses are lined with stucco and have a Welsh slate hipped roof. They are two storeys high, with a four-window front, and a double-pile two-unit plan for each dwelling, featuring side entrances. The ground floor is rusticated with tripartite sash windows, featuring cast-iron fluted mullions and emphasised voussoirs. The first floor has tall mullioned and transomed windows with panelled aprons and segmental pediments supported by brackets. A plain cornice band runs along the top, with projecting eaves also carried on brackets. The building is documented on a plan of Birkenhead and Claughton cum Grange from 1858, created by Mills and Fletcher, Surveyors.
