Description

Holly Lodge is a house dating from approximately 1840 to 1847, built in a picturesque Gothic style. The exterior is stuccoed and the roof is covered with Welsh slate. The building has an asymmetrical design with three windows across the front and two storeys in height. Two advanced gables are set to the right, with a gable set at a right angle to the left. The main entrance is located within the central gable. A large, canted bay window with arched windows and leaded lights is situated on the ground floor of the right-hand gable. Above this is an embattled parapet featuring billet moulding and a quatrefoil frieze. A two-light mullioned and transomed window with leaded lights and a hood-mould sits above the entrance. The central gable incorporates a canted bay window with a raking roof and leaded lights, topped by an arched mullioned and transomed window with a hood mould. A lean-to addition extends from the ground floor of the left-hand range, featuring paired windows with margin lights. Above the lean-to is a blind window, with a coped gabled dormer. Chimneys are placed along the central axis. The design was documented in a plan of Oxton dating from 1847.
