Description

This house dates from around 1850 and is constructed of stucco with a Welsh slate roof. It is a two-storey, two-unit building, with a full-height porch extending to the right, which creates an additional recessed bay. The entrance is round-arched, with an arched-panelled door. A decorative cornice band runs along the top of the building. A wide, hipped-roof canted bay window occupies the front, featuring 12-pane sash windows on each floor and on each face. Entablatures are carried on brackets over the lower windows, forming a continuous string course, with plain sill bands above. The unit on the left is recessed, and has a 12-pane sash window on each floor, also with an entablature above its lower window. The corners of the building are defined by angle quoins. There are end wall and axial stacks. The house appears on maps of Oxton parish from 1847 and of Birkenhead and Claughton cum Grange from 1858.
