Description

A pair of houses dating to circa 1850, located on Village Road in Oxton, Birkenhead. The houses are constructed of lined-out stucco with a Welsh slate roof. They are symmetrically planned, with a double-pile two-unit layout, and entrances within projecting porches on the side. The porch on the left has a renewed 2-arched panel door and a parapet. Each side features an advanced outer gabled bay with a modillion cornice, suggesting a pediment. A squared bay window with a cornice and parapet, carried on brackets, is on the ground floor, with a 12-pane sash window above in a shouldered architrave. Between the gables is a three-window range, with 12-pane sash windows on both floors. Cast-iron openwork square-section supports carry a leaded canopy running between the gables. There are three axial stacks. The buildings appear on plans of Oxton and Birkenhead dating from 1847 and 1858.
