Description

This is a pair of houses located at 9 and 11 Alton Road in Birkenhead, dating from around 1850. They feature roughcast render and a Welsh slate roof. The two-storey houses are symmetrically designed, each having a two-unit double-pile plan with a side entry. The outer gabled bays are slightly advanced and include a canted bay window with a transom on the ground floor, along with a 12-pane sash window above and a sill band. Each gable apex has a 6-pane round arched window. The central bays have a 2-pane sash window in a moulded architrave on the ground floor, and a 12-pane sash window above, with a continuous sill band. The houses also feature brackets at the eaves cornice, angle quoins, and axial stacks.
