Description
No. 2 Roslin Road, also known as No. 41, is a pair of houses built around 1850-1858 in Oxton, Birkenhead. The houses feature lined out stucco that is channelled at the ground floor and are topped with a Welsh slate roof. They are designed in an Italianate style and consist of two storeys with a symmetrical layout. Each house has a double pile, two-unit plan.
The outer entrances are located in recessed bays, featuring round arched doorways with part-glazed doors that include stained glass panels. The two upper windows are also round-headed and include margin lights. The main range has pedimented outer gables and canted bay windows on the ground floor, which are fitted with mullioned and transomed casements, as well as round arched windows above that have keyblocks.
The central range consists of two bays, with French windows that have margin lights and shallow segmental heads on the ground floor, and two-light casement windows above with panelled aprons. There is a continuous sill band, and modillion brackets support the projecting eaves and the moulded cornice of the pediment in each gable. The houses also feature axial stacks.
