Description

This is a house located at 31 Grosvenor Road in Birkenhead, built around 1844-1848 by Charles Reed. The building is constructed of stucco and features a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and a symmetrical three-bay façade with a central entrance. The entrance is highlighted by a portico porch, which is flanked by canted bays that contain sash windows with moulded lugged surrounds. Above the central window, there are casement windows with margin lights, and the central window is topped with an entablature supported by console brackets. The house has a moulded cornice and eaves that project on brackets. There are end wall stacks. This property is part of the original development in Claughton, which was laid out by Reed during the 1840s and 1850s, as shown in maps from 1844 and 1848.
