Description
Number 50 Sandown Road, which includes Number 12 Shanklin Road, is a pair of mid-19th century houses. They are constructed of brick with stucco and feature a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and have three bays each, with the end bays projecting under gables. The ground floor is stuccoed and has a cornice above the first-floor sill course, along with a frieze in between and bracketed eaves at the top. Quoin strips are present on the corners. The windows feature eared architraves with keys and are sashed without glazing bars. The end bay windows are tripartite, while the ground floor windows are set in canted bays. The first-floor windows have pierced balconies on the end bays and pierced aprons on the other windows, along with a bay leaf frieze, cornices on the end bays, and segmental pediments on the other bays. The attic windows are round-headed, with architraves and keys on the end bays. Each floor has a niche between the central bays. The returns of the buildings have porches with antae. Number 12 Shanklin Road has lost its balcony on the end bay and features a rectangular bay window above the porch.
