Description

Two houses located on Sandown Road, dating from the mid-19th century. They are built of stucco with a hipped slate roof. Each house is two storeys and two bays wide, with projecting end bays. A cornice runs above the ground floor, and there is a top frieze embellished with rosettes and boxed eaves. Quoin strips add definition to the facade. The ground floor features canted bay windows in the projecting end bays, accentuated by rusticated surrounds, angle pilasters, and a parapet. The other ground floor windows are tripartite, also with rusticated surrounds. First floor windows are set within architraves; those in the end bays have friezes and consoled cornices. The entrances, situated in the returns, are round-headed with an archivolt and key, decorated spandrels, a panelled frieze, and a segmental pediment featuring a shell motif. A central stucco stack is present, along with an end stack on number 69.
