Description

A pair of houses, built around 1840. They are constructed with a painted brick exterior, and feature a slate roof to number 20. Number 22 has a more recent, 20th-century pantiled roof with a prominent central chimney stack. The houses are arranged with a wide, central bay to each house, joined beneath a high gable. Smaller bays are set back on either side, providing entrances. The properties are two storeys high with a basement level, and have windows with slender sash glazing, with the first-floor windows having been replaced. Steps lead to the front doors, which are recessed within elaborate doorcases. The doorcase of number 20 has three wide panels and a fanlight; the door of number 22 has Greek key decoration, though the fanlight is missing. The interiors were not inspected, but are noted to retain unusual vertical folding shutters, a characteristic feature of the Leighton Road area. The front areas are enclosed by cast-iron railings and steps with pineapple finials.
