Description
Numbers 5 and 6 are a pair of semi-detached houses dating from circa 1858. They are constructed of stucco and knapped flint, with a slate roof.
The houses are three storeys high, with a basement, and feature a three-window front. Each has a stuccoed wing set back to the side; the wing on Number 5 serves as the main entrance, while Number 6’s entrance is within the main front elevation. The flint is arranged in panels framed by stucco storey bands and quoins. Flat-arched entrances, with sidelights and overlights, are recessed under round-arched porches featuring pilasters, an archivolt, a keystone, and a cornice. The ground floor has canted bays; Number 5 has two bays and Number 6 has one, with mullions treated as pilasters having stepped capitals, a cornice, and a panelled parapet, all integrated into a broad storey band. First and second-floor windows have eared architraves, with the second-floor windows having simplified detailing and broken into the frieze. Boxed eaves and hipped roofs are present, along with stacks to the sides and the party wall. The entrance bay of Number 5 is simply detailed, while that of Number 6 incorporates detailing matching the main front and a return in Dyke Road, also in stucco.
The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
A low, coped garden wall with squat corniced gate piers is attached.
