Description
These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Dyke Road, dating to approximately 1860. They are constructed of stucco with a roof of Welsh slate. The houses are two storeys over a basement, with a three-storey rear wing to number 128. Number 128 has a three-window front, while number 130 has a two-window front. The outer entrance bay is slightly recessed on each house. Steps lead to a flat-arched entrance with an overlight; number 128 has a round-arched porch added, featuring panelled Corinthian pilasters, an archivolt, and a cornice. Number 130 has pilasters and an entablature instead. All windows are flat-arched. A full-height canted bay with a bracketed balcony is present on the ground floor of number 128, featuring cast-iron railings and canopies to the ground and first floors. The windows over the entrance have architraves, and the sashes throughout are of an original design. A bracketed cornice and parapet top the facade, with a hipped roof and stacks to the party walls. A wing has been added to the northeast side of number 128, with architraves to all windows, sashes of an original design, and a hipped roof. The interior was not inspected. A plaque on number 128 commemorates Magnus Volk, an inventor and electrical pioneer, who lived there between 1914 and 1937.
