Description

Nos. 52 and 54 on Stubbins Street is a farmhouse from the 17th century that has been altered to create two cottages. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone with quoins and features a slate roof. There are three chimneys: one on the ridge, one at the right gable, and an external chimney at the front end of the right return wall. The structure has a double-depth, two-bay plan, with the second bay projecting. It stands two storeys tall and has a dripcourse at the first floor level of the second bay. Doorways with plain surrounds have been inserted close to the angle in the first bay and where the left end of the original window was in the second bay.

The building has two double-chamfered stone mullion windows on each floor. The left window has 12 lights with a transom and hoodmould, while the right window has 4 lights (originally 6). On the first floor, there are windows with 5 lights and 6 lights, the latter missing the centre mullion. The left return wall, which may have originally been the first bay of a three-bay structure, is now covered by No. 56. The right return wall and the rear of the building are of less interest, with the rear featuring 19th-century openings. The interior has been remodelled.
