Description

Nos. 26 and 24 on Gill Lane is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 18th century, possibly around 1730, and was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular double-depth plan, is two storeys high with attics, and consists of two bays that are almost symmetrical.

The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and has a six-panel double-layer door. There are two windows on each floor, all with plain raised surrounds and flat-faced flush mullions. The windows on the left side were originally four lights but are now missing the first and third mullions, featuring top-hung casements instead. The right side has two-light windows with altered glazing. The roof is graduated stone slate, supported by moulded gutter brackets, with gable copings that include kneelers, and chimneys located at the left gable and on the ridge.

The right-hand return wall of No. 24 has been altered in a 17th-century style, featuring a single-storey gabled porch and recessed mullioned windows. Inside the left half (No. 26), there is a large chamfered beam, a rectangular stone fireplace that is concealed, built-in cupboards with fielded panels and H-L hinges, and very long strap hinges on the inside of the front door.
