Description
This is a barn attached to the south end of Number 3 High Fold, dating from the 17th century, with some earlier elements. The barn has been altered and likely shortened due to the construction of Number 3 on part of its site. It is built of coursed squared sandstone, featuring quoins only at the south-east corner, and has a stone slate roof. The barn has an L-shaped plan with three bays and a two-bay aisle on the west side. There is a former wagon entrance located in the bay between the aisle and the gable wall of Number 3, although this doorway is now mostly blocked. An inserted doorway is found in the re-entrant of the aisle, along with four square openings in the front wall of the aisle. The south gable wall includes two inserted doorways and two smaller openings above. The rear of the barn is of less interest.
Inside, there are two large aisle posts with braces connecting to the tie-beams and the aisle-plate, which is scarf-jointed. The upper parts of the corresponding wall-posts are visible in the east wall. At each end, there are wall-posts and some bracing from the cross-frames of what was formerly a smaller structure.
