Description

Christ Church Chapel, designed by John Garrett, was built in 1874 and is inscribed "Wesleyan Chapel" in relief capitals below the eaves cornice. The chapel features a two-storey front made of ashlar stone. It has four arched openings, with the inner ones on the ground floor serving as doors, and the outer ones located in narrow advanced wings topped with pediments over pilaster strips. The inner bays on the ground floor are supported by wide pilasters with horizontal rustication, which hold up an entablature. Additional architectural details include keystones, sill-bands, and various mouldings, along with central steps. The chapel is significant as a peripheral item in a group of listed buildings in the centre of Ramsbottom.
