Description

The barn located to the west of Stephen Park dates back to 1736, as indicated by a plaque on the east wall. It is constructed from slobbered rubble and features a stone slate roof. The barn is wider at the south end, which includes an underhoused shippon, while a second shippon is located at the north end.

The east wall has a wide entrance with long-and-short jambs and an arched head made of two pieces of stone. There is a door on the far right with long-and-short jambs, and a similar door on the far left that is now blocked. The gables are adorned with copings and shaped kneelers. The south wall contains two shippon doors with plain reveals. On the rear (west) side, there is a blocked threshing door along with later additions.

Inside the barn, remnants of cattle stalls can be found at both ends, although they are now partly destroyed. The roof trusses are structured as follows: the first has a tie beam with curved queen struts and a short king post rising from a collar; the second features a tie beam with curved queen struts, with the principals curving to meet a king block that is shaped at the bottom; the third also has a tie beam with curved queen struts and a king block shaped at the bottom; and the fourth is a softwood truss with a tie beam, straight queen struts, and a king block.
