Description

Stephen Park is a house, likely dating to around 1700, as indicated by the inscription "IHA 1700" above the door lintel. The structure is built of slobbered rubble and has a slate roof, with a brick cap on the left-hand chimney stack. It follows a double-pile plan with end stacks.

The house is two storeys high, with a large central porch extending to one-and-a-half storeys. The upper storey of the porch projects, supported by a string course on both the front and left-hand return walls. Mullioned windows are positioned on either side of the porch; the window to the left has four lights, while the one to the right has three lights. Both feature an inner ovolo moulding and an outer chamfer, as well as a hood. A remnant of a similar surround on the first floor to the left has been incorporated into the jambs of a tall sash window. Above the porch, to its right, is a window with plain reveals. To the right of the porch is a five-light window with an outer chamfer and an inner hollow chamfer. The porch's window above the doorway has two lights, displaying an outer chamfer and an inner cyma moulding. A small fixed window with glazing bars is present on the right-hand return wall of the porch, alongside the remains of double-chamfered jambs. A similar window with plain reveals is on the left-hand return wall. The outer porch doorway is decorated with a zig-zag pattern moulding that extends across the lintel. A drip mould rises over the lintel and over the date plaque. The inner porch doorway has a chamfered surround with a debased four-centred head; decoration and a date are present on the lintel, though obscured by paint. The rear (north) wall has ground-floor mullioned windows with an outer chamfer and an inner ovolo moulding, including two-light, one-light (formerly larger), and five-light windows. The first floor displays remnants of surrounds with an outer chamfer and an inner hollow chamfer. Inside, the left-hand front room contains a wide, moulded segmental-arched fireplace, now partly blocked. The stair and first floor were not accessible during the survey.
