Description

Cracoe (or Cracow) Hill Farmhouse is a house built in 1691 that has been altered over time. It is constructed from slobbered rubble and has a stone slate roof. The farmhouse features a three-cell plan and stands two storeys tall. The original windows have double-chamfered surrounds. To the left of the door, there is a window with the remains of original jambs and a hood with one spiral stop. To the right, there is a similar window with an ovolo-moulded hood. At the far right, an original window retains one mullion and has an ovolo-moulded hood. On the first floor, there are four windows; the inner ones have plain reveals, while the outer ones show the remains of original surrounds. The door itself has a chamfered surround and a shaped lintel inscribed with "WMC IAL 1691". To the left of the door, there is a second, blocked doorway. The farmhouse has chimneys on the gables and aligned with the door. The left-hand return wall features a blocked one-light window with a hood and spiral stops. At the rear on the first floor, there is a chamfered one-light window with a segmental head. Inside, the central room has a deep chimney breast with a modern fireplace, aligned with the front door. The chamfered axial main ceiling joists are scarfed in front of the chimney breast, indicating that a firehood bressumer may have been removed.
