Description
The barn at Plas Uchaf is a large 5-bay structure built from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof featuring crow-stepped gables and a plinth. On the right side, there is a wide opening that has been altered, with a recessed door under an iron lintel accessed by a high step. The far right shows some brick patching and an angle buttress. To the left, there are three stone-lined ventilation slits, with the central one extended downwards in brick. Beneath the left slit, there is a doorway with stone jambs and a lintel, which contains a boarded door. The roof pitch has one large skylight and three smaller ones, along with a blocked loft opening on the west gable end. The rear of the barn is hidden by a large open hay shed but features double doors, a window, and a loft hatch. An extension has been added to the east end, which includes four planked doors under stone lintels and two planked window openings to the right of each door, all within stone surrounds. There are three skylights in this section.
Inside, the barn boasts substantial King-post trusses, with the central posts being chamfered and featuring curved struts, and two pairs of purlins. There is a cart passage with planked doors at the rear and a planked partition on the left side that would have supported a loft. To the right of the cart passage, a brick structure has been built, linked to former milking activities. The range on the right was previously used for milking and has closely spaced rafters and collars, with stalls divided by open steel railings. It is currently used for storing grain.
